I was in Portland with a veteran for one of his hearings with a Decission Officer. AMVET was his Power of Attorney at that time. They had an office in the Federal Building. We were supposed to show up at the building a little earlier than the hearing, and go meet with his Representive from AMVET to discuss what would happen in the hearing. We went in the office. There was one man sitting at a desk,. He was working on his computer. He looked up and motioned us to have a seat. Greeted us, we introduced ourselves he told us he was the Veterans AMVET Rep, and then went back to what he was doing on the computer. The Veteran was talking to him about his case, and the Rep seemed very intent on what he was doing with the computer, as if he were taking notes or something. After about 15 minutes or so, I decided to get up and go look out the window which was behind the AMVET Rep, and take some pictures. I was up pretty high, and thought I could get some good shots of the surrounding building. After shooting off a couple I turned around to go back to my seat and saw what the Rep was so intently working on. A SOLITARE GAME!!! I must have made a sound of shock or something because once he realised that I saw that he was simply playing a game, he turned it off, and continued his conversation about the hearing. I honestly couldnt believe the lack of attention that was given to the veteran. The silly game on the computer seemed more important to that representitve.
